How do I move money between investments?

To move assets which are already invested in your account, you can place an exchange between funds on the Exchange page under the Financial menu. Please note, placing an exchange does not automatically affect the way in which contributions are being deposited to your account.

What is the difference between changing my future investment election and placing an exchange?
Your future investment election determines how contributions are split into the different investment options when they are deposited. Placing an exchange moves assets already invested in your account from one investment option to another. Please note, these two items do not affect each other. In other words:

  • Changing your future investment election will not move any asset you already have in your account.
  • Placing an Exchange will not change the way your contributions are being deposited.

How does "Move Shares" work?

This exchange option allows you to transfer shares from one fund to any other available fund in the Plan. You have two option for moving shares:

  • Exchange All Shares - This option will sell all of the shares you have in the "From" fund and reinvest 100% of the proceeds in the "To" fund you designate.
  • Exchange a whole number of Shares - This option will sell the number of shares you specify in the "From" fund and reinvest 100% of the proceeds in the "To" fund you designate.

How does "Reallocate Current Balance by Percentage" work?

This exchange option allows you to specify what percentage of your existing account you would like to have invested in each fund in the Plan. Our system will calculate the number of shares that need to be sold from each fund, if any, and reinvest the proceeds to bring your entire account balance into position with your percentage elections.

We offer several reallocation options to meet your needs:

  • Reallocate Current Balance Only
  • Reallocate Current Balance & Update Your Investment Election - This option reallocates your account AND changes your investment elections to match the reallocation. This will change both your current assets and future contributions.
  • Reallocate Current Balance, Update Investment Elections, & Rebalance Monthly - This option reallocates your account, changes your investment elections to match the reallocation, AND sets your account to automatically rebalance itself monthly to match the reallocation percentages.
  • Reallocate Current Balance, Update Investment Elections, & Rebalance Quarterly - This option reallocates your account, changes your investment elections to match the reallocation, AND sets your account to automatically rebalance itself quarterly to match the reallocation percentages.
  • Reallocate Current Balance, Update Investment Elections, & Rebalance Annually - This option reallocates your account, changes your investment elections to match the reallocation, AND sets your account to automatically rebalance itself annually to match the reallocation percentages.

When are exchanges executed?

This depends upon your plan. For complete details of exchange dates and cutoff times for your plan, please refer to the web site/VRU informational brochure prepared by DRS. What is a pending exchange?

A pending exchange is a confirmation of a request to transfer assets between investment funds in your account. There are two types of pending exchanges:

  • Exchange requests that can be deleted. The exchange cutoff time for your plan has not been reached yet. If you have changed your mind about placing this trade you can still delete it. Exchange requests can be deleted up to your Plan's exchange cutoff.
  • Exchanges requests that can not be deleted. The exchange cutoff time has been reached for your Plan. We have forwarded your exchange request to the appropriate mutual fund families. As soon as the mutual fund families confirm your exchange activity back to DRS, we will reflect the exchange as completed in your account.
